Licorice Tea Satisfies
Licorice tea as a replacement for coffee. I have been a coffee drinker since my early teens. But now I find I am edging coffee out of my life and adding tea, in particular licorice tea. I have numerous reasons for this.
I began this process of coffee replacement for one simple reason and as I learned more about tea I found many more reasons why I should include tea into my daily diet. My initial reason was sleep. It seems the older I get the more difficult it is to get a good night sleep. So I decided to decrease my consumption of caffeine. Decaf coffee sucks and for me tea just didn't deliver enough flavor to be an adequate replacement. Then I saw a licorice tea advertisement and gave it a try. As I drank my first cup, I realized I had found what I was looking for, a low caffeine, flavorful alternative to coffee.
That was just the first reason. Being naturally inquisitive and having heard the recent buzz about green tea, I started a little investigation. I learned that green tea contains anti-oxidants, which do a lot of positive things for the body. Anti-oxidants fight viruses, lower cholesterol and improve the functioning of the arteries. They are anti-fungal and antibacterial as well. They are believed to slow the aging process and are used to treat diarrhea, various infections, pneumonia and cancer. All things that I have become more concerned about as I get older.
Licorice tea is white tea with licorice flavoring from star anise or extract from licorice root. I found that white tea has higher levels of anti-oxidants that green tea. Some even say that it is the new green tea and it's popularity is rising every day.
So, what started for me as a simple solution to a simple problem has become my passion. I continue looking into facts and studies on tea and it's health benefits. And I continue to be amazed that a mere two cups of tea a day can improve my health in so many ways. I urge you to try some today. I'll miss my old friend coffee and I'm sure I'll continue to have a cup now and then, but no longer will I drinking it by the pot full. May new friend "licorice tea" has positive effects on my health and wonderful soothing flavor that I enjoy thoroughly.
